SUPEERA’s perspective on connecting the dots in European policy and regulation

On the occasion of the EERA SET Plan Conference 2020 Side Event “Green Energy Transition in Green Recovery times: What role for low carbon energy research?”, which was held online on the 25th of November, SUPEERA was invited to present the work carried out in the framework of the project.

As part of the EERA SET Plan side event’s session on connecting the dots, Petter Støa, researcher from SINTEF Energy Research, chair of the EERA Policy Working Group, and involved in the SUPEERA project, introduced the main outcomes and reflections from the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs). Such analysis was conducted as part of the SUPEERA project.

Connecting the dots is central to EERA’s remit and SUPEERA strives to do so by facilitating the coordination of the research community in support of the execution of the SET Plan, as well as by supporting, encouraging, and improving the exchange of information and recommendations between EU Member States and Associated Countries.

As presented by Støa, the NECPs analysis conducted in the context of the project had a twofold objective. On the one hand, it was carried out with the aim of exploring potential opportunities to further increase the collaboration between Member States and Associated Countries in the field of energy and climate, and in view of bringing the SET Plan forward in the broader context of the Clean Energy Transition. On the other hand, it serves as a useful tool to examine the efficacy of the plans set out by each Member State and, in case it is needed, deliver sectorial and cross-systemic recommendations and priorities to be acted upon.
